Before you buy: check what’s covered

Mastectomy bras and breast forms are often partly or fully covered, so it’s worth asking before you pay full price.

  • United States: under the Women’s Health and Cancer Rights Act, group health plans that cover mastectomy must also cover prostheses. Many plans and Medicare also cover a set number of post-mastectomy bras each year with a prescription.
  • United Kingdom: breast prostheses are provided free through the NHS. Ask your breast care nurse about a fitting.
  • Canada and Europe: coverage depends on your province or country and your insurer. Your care team or local cancer society can tell you what applies.
